Kamala Harris Appears on Popular Podcast Call Her Daddy: What This Reveals About Harris's Strategy
As the 2024 political race continues to heat up, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have worked tirelessly to gain Americans' support and secure their victory this coming November. A new Gallup poll indicates that young women between the ages of 18 and 29 disproportionately identify themselves as liberal compared to their male counterparts. (Saad et al., 2024) This statistic cuts across race, education, and class lines, revealing that more young women have backed liberal ideas since 2016. Data shows that these women are also more politically engaged than men in their age bracket, making their demographic a very attractive pool for politicians to appeal to for support (Miller, 2024). Mobilizing these young women to vote and maintaining their vast support is crucial for Kamala Harris if she wants to become the next president. Harris has recognized this need and built much of her campaign around empowering this powerful group.
On October 6, Alex Cooper, host of the Call Her Daddy podcast, released a 44-minute episode where she sat down with the Vice President to discuss her campaign and share her message. In a TikTok video posted the same day the interview was released, Cooper explained that she came to the interview ready to ask questions about women's issues, doing so in a way that would "apply to the Daddy gang." The episode touched on several topics, including reproductive rights, student loan forgiveness, and personal attacks perpetrated by the Trump-Vance team (Adeosum, 2024). Since the podcast's creation in 2018, Call Her Daddy has been among the top-streamed podcasts on most major streaming platforms. Harris's decision to go on this top-rated podcast widely listened to by young women was deliberate, as she understands whose support she needs to maintain. It brought a lot of positive buzz to Harris's campaign, which becomes more necessary as we move closer to the election.

Hi! I absolutely loved Kamala's campaign strategy. I think she worked hard to appeal to Genz especially young girls and women. I think it was a great idea to do a podcast episode for call me daddy because the target audience is women. So, joining that podcast and discussing women's rights was a great idea. She was trying to appeal to women and get their vote.
